Indicator black lever flush Latch Non Locking: stedall Make Ready Flag Locks.Know whether a compartment has been opened—without opening it again. On an emergency or specialist vehicle, checking every cupboard and equipment compartment can take valuable time. Even after a vehicle has been fully stocked and prepared, there is normally no obvious way to tell whether someone has subsequently opened a compartment or disturbed its contents. The Stedall Make Ready Flag Lock provides an immediate visual answer.
Once a compartment has been checked, stocked and reset, a bright green indicator appears on the face of the latch. If the latch is subsequently opened, the indicator automatically changes from green to red and remains red—even after the compartment has been closed again. A green flag therefore confirms that the compartment has not been opened since its last authorised check. A red flag tells the crew that it has been accessed and may need checking or replenishing. No electronics.
No wiring. No software. Just clear, dependable mechanical confirmation at a glance.
Designed to improve make-ready efficiency. Without a retained status indicator, crews may have to reopen every compartment during a vehicle handover or make-ready inspection. This duplicates work and increases the time before the vehicle can return to service. Flag locks allow staff to walk through the vehicle and identify its status visually:
Green: checked, reset and not subsequently opened. Red: opened since the last reset—inspection required. Only compartments displaying red need further attention. This makes replenishment more targeted, simplifies crew changes and provides a clear, consistent checking process.
The indicator cannot simply be reset by closing the door. The red flag remains visible until the latch is reset using the dedicated key. Closing and reopening the compartment does not return the indicator to green. This tamper-resistant design prevents the status from being cleared casually and ensures that green has a meaningful operational purpose. Resetting can be completed one-handed while closing the latch.
A green reset key is supplied with each lock. Locking and non-locking versions. Two versions are available:
3215BS—non-locking flag latch. For internal cupboards and compartments where access does not need to be restricted, but where crews must know whether the compartment has been opened. 3225BS—key-locking flag latch.
Adds conventional key-controlled security for compartments containing controlled, valuable or access-sensitive equipment, while retaining the same red-and-green make-ready indication. Both versions provide a grip range of 0–21mm and share the established body profile used by Stedall’s standard 3215 and 3225 flush latches. A practical retrofit.
Because the flag locks use the same body profile as the corresponding standard Stedall latches, existing installations can be upgraded without redesigning the compartment or creating a new panel cut-out. This makes the system suitable for new vehicle builds as well as fleet upgrades. Ideal applications.
Ambulance medicine and consumables cupboards. Emergency medical equipment compartments. Fire and rescue vehicles.
Police and specialist-response vehicles. First-aid and safety-equipment cabinets. Make-ready and vehicle-handover systems.
Controlled tools or service equipment. Any compartment requiring a visible access indication. A small lock that removes a repetitive task.
The Stedall flag lock does not merely hold a door closed. It records, mechanically and visibly, whether that door has been opened. That simple difference can reduce unnecessary compartment checks, shorten vehicle turnaround times and give crews greater confidence that a green-indicated compartment remains exactly as it was when it was prepared.
