Drivers in Scotland and northern England have been advised to prepare for the onset of Storm Ewan, with motorists urged to take extra care in the coming days.
Road safety and breakdown recovery organisation GEM Motoring Assist has highlighted the potential for a significant risk to road users when high winds and heavy rain progress across the Irish Sea in the coming days.
GEM road safety officer Neil Worth said: "We want all road users to be aware of how risk increases when weather conditions become more challenging. So, if your journey is not necessary, then consider delaying it."
However, for those who have to travel, Mr Worth advised drivers to remember the Highway Code – especially the fact that stopping distances will increase considerably when roads are wet and icy, and reduced visibility means drivers should slow down.
Poor weather conditions can also dramatically increase an individual's chances of being involved in a serious accident, so it always pays to be wary when driving when conditions are less than perfect.
Ben Robb, brand manager at The Fuelcard People, adds: "The adverse weather continues to come thick and fast at this time of year, so all drivers need to have their wits about them every time they take to the roads."
